fun. (band)

Indie pop group fun. burst onto the music scene with flair and fanfare in 2012 with their hit single ‘We Are Young,’ and pop music hasn’t been quite the same since. The heavily harmonized song was featured in the popular musical show ‘Glee,’ and reigned atop the Billboard Hot 100 charts for weeks and weeks. That year, the band won Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and for Best New Artist. The band was formed by frontman Nate Ruess in 2008 after he left his former band and joined up with two of his touring partners. Their debut album was released in 2009, and while it achieved critical acclaim, it wasn’t until their second album ‘Some Nights’ was unveiled that their popularity exploded. The band’s sound has been described as poppy and upbeat, but with some dark and creative undertones. Singer Nate Ruess has even been compared to Freddie Mercury of Queen fame, due to his wide vocal range and complex harmonies. Rumors of a new album to be released by fun. in 2014 are circulating.

About fun. (band)

Fun (officially stylized as fun.) is an American indie pop band based in New York City that was formed by Nate Ruess, formerly of The Format. After the 2008 breakup of The Format, Ruess formed Fun with Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff of Anathallo and Steel Train respectively. Fun has released two albums: their debut Aim and Ignite in 2009 and their latest Some Nights in February 2012. The band is best known for their hit singles 'We Are Young' featuring Janelle Mone, and 'Some Nights'. 'We Are Young' reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and Digital Songs charts, becoming the first alternative rock song to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart since Coldplay's 'Viva la Vida' in 2008. It peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart, as well. 'Some Nights' was released as the album's second single in May 2012, peaking at number 3 on the Hot 100 chart so far, and becoming their second Top 10 single, as well as their second song to reach platinum status in the USA.
