Giving Birth

Giving Birth

Giving birth is one of the most exciting and moving of human events. What used to be a sedated experience for the mother is now most often a joint effort in which the mother is very much aware of what is going on. Sometimes her husband or a birth partner is there to help and encourage her.

About Giving Birth

The act of giving birth is one of the most amazing things that the female body can do. It is often referred to as a miracle to watch a life begin and a child or other creature take its breath for the very first time. Many people take pictures of their birth experiences and share them with others.

Most creatures give birth naturally, without the aid of medication or drugs. Dogs giving birth often find a quiet corner alone and birth their puppies without a sound. A woman giving birth is given the option to take the edge off the pain of labor and delivery with medication. She can choose to have an epidural which is administered into the spinal column and blocks the nerves from which you feel pain. There are also other injections a woman can receive that can take the edge off.

In addition to how she will handle the pain, a woman can choose which methods she prefers to give birth by. The most traditional way is to deliver the baby in a hospital setting with a doctor and team of nurses. A woman can also have to choose her baby in the comfort of her own home, in her own bed with the assistance of a mid-wife, or at a birthing center where nurse/midwives help with the birth.

Some choose to give birth into a tub of warm water. Some require and occasionally request a Caesarean birth. A Caesarean or C-Section is where a doctor makes an incision into the abdomen and uterus to deliver the baby. This usually happens only if there are complications that make giving birth vaginally dangerous for the mother or baby. After giving birth the mother needs rest and will want to hold her baby and let it start to nurse or take a bottle.
