About Great Gatsby

Written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and published in 1925, 'The Great Gatsby' is narrated by Nick Carraway, a Yale graduate who fought in World War I. Though brought up in a wealthy family, Carraway makes a humble wage in the bond business. Living in a bungalow between two mansions, Carraway learns that his next-door neighbor is the very wealthy Jay Gatsby. Gatsby throws lavish parties to attract Daisy, a lost love.

At the party, Carraway meets the eccentric Gatsby and forms a friendship that night. Carraway's adventures with the great Gatsby lead him to discover Gatsby's fledgling and passionate affairs, and betrayal of every kind by friends, ending in a depressing cyclical history which leads to none of the satisfaction Nick or the great Gatsby desired.

'The Great Gatsby' is ranked second in the Modern Library's list of the 100 Best Novels of the 20th Century. It is also widely mandated as a standard text in high school- and university-level American literature classes.
