About Greek Gods

The Greek Gods were created by man to help explain the unexplainable. Through the stories of the gods men were able to explain how the world came about plus all other occurrences that happen around them that seemed mysterious and random.

The gods were honored and worshiped by the Greeks, and the myths and stories about the lives of the gods were passed down from generation to generation. They have been the foundation for many works of art, from painting, to sculpture, to music and drama.

Angering the gods was thought to bring upon great danger to the people. The skies would darken and thunder would be heard. Depending on which god was angry, different things might occur. Agriculture could fail, loved ones could die or floods could ravage the earth. The Greeks would honor their gods by holding festivals in their name and making sacrifices to them. Honoring the gods was believed to bring good fortune, good health and prosperity to those who paid homage.
