Green Tea

Green Tea

Green tea has long been known for its health benefits in Asia. China has known for thousands of years about the wonderful benefits that green tea offers. Some of the benefits of green tea include fighting cancer and heart health. It is even believed to aid in weight loss. China is the world’s largest importer and producer of tea. Green tea is distinct from black tea and white tea.

About Green Tea

Green Tea Benefits

Green tea contains the powerful anti oxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is said to kill cancer cells without harming healthy tissue, lowers cholesterol and helps to prevent heart attacks and strokes. Green tea can stop tooth decay because it has bacteria destroying properties and help prevent food poisoning.

Green Tea Diet

Many studies also show that green tea enhances fat oxidation and increases thermogenesis (the rate your body burns calories). This is great news for people wanting to shed a few pounds. Green tea alone will not make you lose weight but a healthy diet and regular exercises added to the green tea should do the job. Green tea extract is added to many products in order to put the benefits of green tea to the product.

As with any product, be sure to do your homework. There are many imitations out there and you may be getting a far less quality of tea when you purchase it. Products with added green tea nutrients may not be what they seem either. The FDA recently cited Canada Dry Ginger Ale and Lipton Green Tea for falsely stating that the drink is enhanced with 200 mg of antioxidants from green tea and vitamin C. According to FDA regulations, the ingredients in Canada Dry's product are not nutrients with recognized antioxidant activity. (Source: mercurynews.com)
