The origin of the greeting card dates back to ancient China where the Chinese would express their good will to others on New Years on various items, and the ancient Egyptians who praised one another on Papyrus.

Greeting cards come in a variety of themes, which help express the thoughts of the sender to the receiver in any given circumstance - such as a birthday, wedding, anniversary, etc.

Greeting cards have evolved throughout the years and begun incorporating various other features, aside from the average illustration or saying. Some of these new features are little lights, speakers which can emit a song, recorded saying, or allow the sender to record their own sentiment to the receiver.

The average American will send 55 greeting cards per year.
