Home Depot (NYSE: HD) is a major retail chain specializing in hardware, appliances, lumber, home, yard, and garden supplies. Home Depot is one ofr the world's largest home improvement retailers with more than 2,200 retail stores in the United States (including Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam), Canada, Mexico and China. Home Depot is the fourth largest retailer in the U.S. and the fifth largest in the world.

About Home Depot

Home Depot was founded in 1978 by Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank, who had a vision of one-stop shopping for do-it-yourself projects. The first two stores were opened in Atlanta, Georgia. Both stores were 60,000 square foot warehouses that housed much more stock than any other hardware store at that time. The sales associates went through rigorous training to be able to offer extensive knowledge, advice and guidance through projects, such as laying tile, to customers. In addition, the stores held clinics for customers to learn how to do projects on their own.

In 1999, Home Depot opened up a company museum called The Legend in the Atlanta Store Support Center. The museum chronicles the Home Depot history and serves as an educational tool for associates, vendors and stockholders.
