Ice Cream

Ice Cream

Ice cream is a frozen treat usually made from milk or cream, ice, salt, sugar or some other sweetener, plus just about anything else you want to add, fruit, cookie dough, bacon, anything. It's churned slowly so it has a creamy texture.

About Ice Cream

Ice cream has been around in some form since about 400 B.C. and was usually reserved as a special treat for the very rich and royalty since it involved having ice or snow brought in from the mountains and stored underground.

The first modern ice cream recipe appeared in 1718, since then it has steadily risen in popularity. During the colonial era it was popularized by the Quakers in New York, and was a favorite treat of the founding fathers. Dolly Madison, the wife of James Madison, served ice cream at his inaugural ball.

The mid 1800's saw the first hand-cranked ice cream makers for the masses, and the invention of the ice cream sundae. The 1900's got the invention of the ice cream cone and soft-serve and dip-n-dots, and a rapid expansion of flavors.
