The Indianapolis 500-Mile Race, more popular known as the Indianapolis 500 or Indy 500, is an open wheel racing event held on Memorial Day weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, IN. Speedway is just west of the capital city, Indianapolis. The race is known as the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing" and is also one of the oldest. The first Indy 500 was held on May 30, 1911 with Ray Harroun winning. Races were not held in 1917, 1918, 1942, 1943, 1944, and 1945 due to World Wars. The next Indy 500 will be on Sunday, May 30, 2010. The race will be broadcast on ABC and the official start time is 1:11pm.
