Infertility

Infertility

Infertility is a condition in which a man or woman is unable to contribute toward concieving a child. In recent years modern medicine has developed many remedies for infertility, from artificial insemination, to fertility drugs. Adoption is also an option for infertile couples. There are numerous cases of couples adopting because they are thought infertile and then they are able to conceive.

About Infertility

Infertility refers to the inability of a person to contribute toward the conception of a child. Infertility can strike both men and women and is diagnosed by a doctor usually after one year of attempting to conceive a child.

The leading cause of infertility in men is an abnormal sperm count or impaired delivery of sperm. Abnormal sperm can refer to a low sperm count or abnormal structure of the sperm itself. There may also be problems with testosterone levels, which can affect infertility. Other causes include obesity, stress, drugs and alcohol and illnesses such as cancer.

There are also many causes for infertility in women. Endometriosis is a common cause as is damage to the fallopian tubes. Fibroids can block the fallopian tubes and also prevent proper implantation of eggs. Medications and illnesses can also be a factor.

Experiencing infertility can often be heartbreaking for a couple. Luckily there are many options available to those who are unable to conceive on their own. Fertility drugs can be administered to females to trigger ovulation. Surgery or hormones can be offered to a man to help to increase his sperm count. In-vitro fertilization (IVF) is one of the most effective techniques. Mature eggs are retrieved from the female and fertilized outside the body with sperm. 3 to 5 days later the embryos are planted into the uterus. Another option is adoption, as there are many children waiting for loving homes all over the world.
