Iowa is a state in the Midwestern United States. It became the 29th state in 1846, and was part of the Louisiana Purchase. It is famous for rolling fields of wheat, corn, soybeans and SlipKnot.

Iowa is a state in the Midwestern United States bordered by Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Nebraska. Iowa has a humid continental climate with hot and humid summers and brisk winters. Summer daytime highs average 90 °F in the summer and 35°F in the winter. Winters highs are known to drop below freezing and snow is common.

American settlers arrived in Iowa in June 1833. Many of them were families from Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, and Kentucky. The Territory of Iowa was established on July 4, 1838. The territory had 22 counties and a population of 23,242 at the time. Iowa was admitted to the union on December 28, 1846 as the 29th state with a total area of 56,272 sq miles.

The capital city of Iowa is Des Moines and is also the largest city in the state. Iowa is also known as the Hawkeye State, a tribute to chief Black Hawk, leader of the Sauk Indians. The state bird is the Eastern Goldfinch, the state flower is the Wild Rose, and the state tree is the Oak. The state motto of Iowa is Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain.

Iowa is a state full of fun things to do. The Iowa State Fairgrounds consists of 400 acres of year-round evens with three outdoor stages, show rings, baseball fields and a multimedia center. A 160-acre campground is also on the grounds. Visit the Lewis and Clark Monument and Scenic Overlook in Council Bluffs to take in the view and enjoy trails for hiking and the historical monument dedicated to Lewis and Clark.

Also in Council Bluffs is the Ameristar Casino Hotel. Try your luck in the 38,500-square-feet featuring many popular slot and table games. The baseball buff will not want to miss a stop in Dryersville at the Field of Dreams. This is the original location for the filming of the 1989 hit movie Field of Dreams.
