James Cameron was born on August 16, 1954 in Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada. Cameron studied physics, English, and then later philosophy during his years of college, but after seeing Star Wars in 1977 decided he wanted to enter the film industry. Cameron mixed his love of science with film making.

Cameron’s first movie work including being a part of Battle Beyond the Stars in 1980, Escape from New York in 1981, Galaxy of Terror in 1981, Android in 1982, Piranha II: The Spawning in 1981 where he got his first show at directing.

James Cameron’s career accelarated in 1984 when he wrote The Terminator which he later sold so he could direct it. Cameron worked with Hemdale Pictures to churn out The Terminator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as the title character, and then went with Orion Pictures to distribute it. The Terminator became a hit and earned over $78 million worldwide. The follow-up Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) was even more successful, earning over $150 million demostically at the box office and won four Academy Awards.

Cameron was awarded the Oscar for Best Film Editing, Best Director and Best Picture (Titanic). In 2010, he was nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Picture (shared with Jon Landau), Best Director and Best Film Editing (shared with John Refoua and Stephen E. Rivkin) and received the Golden Globe for Best Picture and Best Director.
