'Jersey Shore' is a hit MTV reality show that premiered in the summer of 2009. The show follows the lives of eight Italian ''guidos'' and ''guidettes'' as they drink, party and get fresh. Like any other reality show, there are laughs, sex, and fights in this fist pumping show.

About Jersey Shore

'Jersey Shore' is a reality show on MTV based on a group of young adults and their time spent at the Jersey shore, and beach homes in other locations. The first season was filmed in August of 2009 and caused a lot of controversy surrounding the way the show portrayed Italians. For this reason, a number of sponsors pulled their advertising from the show's time slot (including Dell, Domino’s, and American Family Insurance).

One controversial episode involved Nicole Snooki Polizzi being punched by another patron in a bar. The clip was aired repeatedly on the news. Brad Ferro, the man who punched Snooki, ended up being arrested and fined $500 with a 6 month suspended sentence.

In January of 2010, MTV announced that there would be a second season of 'Jersey Shore.' It was said that the cast held out on negotiations for more money before agreeing to a second season contract. Season 2 aired during the summer of 2010 and consisted of 12 episodes. The premiere of the second season of 'Jersey Shore' attracted 5.3 million viewers on July 29, 2010, making it the hottest property for MTV in seven years. Among MTV’s core demographic of viewers 12 to 34 years old, the season premiere was the No. 1 cable telecast of the year.

The show has become part of popular teen culture, with guys looking out for GFF's and giving each other nicknames while they spike their hair and tan their bods. ''GFF'' stands for ''Grenade Free Foundation.'' A ''grenade'' is an unattractive woman who is distracted by a wingman so that his fellow guido can successfully creep on her hot friend. Also, ''GTL'' means ''Gym, Tan, Laundry'' - the typical day for anyone on 'Jersey Shore.'
