Jim Morrison

Jim Morrison

Jim Morrison was the controversial lead singer of the American rock band The Doors. His overt sexuality and androgynous good looks made him an instant star. Rolling Stone named him as one of its '100 Greatest Singers of All Time.' He was number 47 on the list.

About Jim Morrison

After graduating from UCLA, where he majored in film, Jim Morrison moved to Venice Beach and took up the hippie life. Influenced by his study of Antonin Artaud, he wrote poetry and soon he and fellow UCLA student Ray Manzarek started The Doors. Drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger joined soon after.

The Doors were named after Aldous Huxley's novel 'The Doors of Perception' and the group indulged in psychedelic drugs and other drugs. Morrison suffered from alcoholism and was found dead in the bathtub of his Paris bathtub on July 3, 1971. There was no autopsy performed and the death left many questions about his estate in later court actions by his common-law wife, Pamela Courson.
