Jon Stewart is an American political satirist, writer, television host, actor, media critic and stand-up comedian. Although he began his career doing stand-up, he moved onto television, mainly hosting shows on MTV and Comedy Central; he also appeared in several films. Stewart became the host of 'The Daily Show' on Comedy Central in early 1999 where he is presently a writer and co-executive-producer.

After Stewart joined 'The Daily Show', it gained popularity and he won his first Emmy Award in 2001. Stewart hosted the 78th and 80th Academy Awards. He co-authored 'America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction', which was one of the best-selling books in the US in 2004. Reportedly, Stewart is paid $1.5 million per season of 'The Daily Show'. According Forbes, he earns $14 million a year.

Stewart lives in downtown Manhattan with his wife Tracey, whom he married in 2000, and two children, Nathan and Maggie, as well as their two pit bull terriers, Monkey and Shamsky.

On October 30, 2010, Stewart's 'Rally to Restore Sanity', a parody of political rallies and a sendup of the media's coverage of politics, brought over 215, 000 people to gather on the National Mall in Washington, DC. The rally was in mock opposition to Stephen Colbert's 'Keep Fear Alive' rally.
