Judge Judy

Judge Judy

Judge Judy is the nickname of small claims arbitrator judge Judith Sheindlin. Judge Judy has led the CBS courtroom series 'Judge Judy' since 1996. A lawyer, judge, author, and TV personality, Judge Judy has always been known for being a tough judge.

About Judge Judy

Judge Judy passed the New York bar exam and became a prosecutor in the family court system in 1965. Ed Koch, the mayor of New York City, appointed her in 1976 to criminal court judge, and eventually to supervising family court judge.

Judy's penchant for being a tough judge long preceded her appearing on television. In the 1990's, the CBS program '60 Minutes' featured Judge Judy on their program because she was known for being brutally honest in the court, and essentially a notoriously tough judge.

In 1996, Judy retired from her position as a New York courts judge. That same year, the CBS courtroom show 'Judge Judy' premiered, and Judge Judy brought her notoriously tough judgments on small claims cases.
