About Katy Perry

Known for: ''I Kissed a Girl'' ''California Gurls'' ''Hot n Cold''

Katy Perry was born in Santa Barbara, CA in 1984 to extremely religious parents. She started singing at an early age but her parents tried to shelter her from what they considered ''secular music.''

At age 15, Perry moved to Nashville to pursue a career in gospel music. She signed with the Christian label Red Hill and began to record music under her real name, Katy Hudson. She released one album that went unnoticed and her label soon closed down.

Katy returned to California and again tried to jump-start her music career. She adopted her mother’s maiden name and started going by Katy Perry so she wouldn’t get confused with the actress Kate Hudson. After several failed attempts, she signed with Capitol Records in 2007 and immediately began working on her album 'One of the Boys.'

'One of the Boys' was a major success. It contained the smash hit singles ''I Kissed a Girl'' and ''Hot n Cold,'' which both went to the top of the charts. ''I Kissed a Girl'' actually spent seven weeks at the top of the Billboard charts. She followed up with a headlining tour called the ''Hello Katy Tour.''

Perry released her next album, 'Teenage Dream' on August 24, 2010. The album features the hit singles ''California Gurls,'' ''Firework,'' ''ET'' and ''Teenage Dream.''

Perry married comedian Russell Brand in October 2010.

She recently began the ''California Dreams World Tour.''
