KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) is an American fast food chain, which specializes in the chicken market by producing high quality fried chicken, grilled chicken, side dishes and more.

About KFC

In the small town of Henryville, Indiana on September 9, 1890 the king of the yard bird is born, but the chickens don't know it yet. Harland Sanders wouldn't take his seat on his fowl throne until he was 50 years old, when he finally perfected his blend of 11 herbs and spices that would make him realize his destiny, to sell a lot of fried chicken.

By the time 1924 had rolled around, Harland Sanders had spent time as an insurance salesman, tire salesman, farm hand, streetcar conductor, blacksmith's helper, a private in the the US Army, and a service station operator. In 1930, he opened his first restaurant in the front room of a gas station in Corbin, Kentucky and called it Sanders Court and Cafe.

The restaurant did very well. By 1936 he had been made an honorary Kentucky Colonel by Governor Ruby Laffoon for his contribution to Kentucky's cuisine. By 1940, Sanders Court and Cafe had burned down, been rebuilt and the good Colonel had developed his ''original recipe.''

By 1952 he had begun to actively franchise his restaurant, calling it Kentucky Fried Chicken. By the 1970's, KFC had expanded to over 3,500 stores across the globe. Kentucky Fried Chicken began to seriously change hands after Sanders' death in 1980.

KFC was briefly owned by R.J. Reynolds Nabisco corporation, then Pepsi Co. bought the franchise from Nabisco. Pepsi formed a quick-service restaurant group called Tricon Global Restaurants made up of KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. In 2002, Tricon Global changed its name to the much less sinister sounding, YUM! Brands, Inc and acquired Long John Silvers and A&W All-American Food, making it the single largest restaurant group in the world.

KFC sells over a billion fried chicken dinners annually in over 80 countries.
