About Korn

Known for: Angst driven rock music and helping create the genre known as Nu-Metal

Korn came about from the demise of the Bakersfield rock band, L.A.P.D. The lead singer, Richard Morrill, was a horrible drug addict and couldn't keep it together causing the band to give him the boot. The remaining members, Reginald Fieldy Arvizu, James Munky Shaffer, and David Silveria wanted to continue on with music. They hired two guys to help them, Brian Welch and singer Corey Cinque, and the band became known as Creep. They made a few demos and decided Cinque was not going to work as a singer. They began to look around for the perfect fit to their music, and eventually found Jonathan Davis. Davis was in a band called Sexart and after the members of Creep saw him perform live, they desperately wanted to bring him on board. At first Davis didn't want to join, but then he went to see a psychic and was convinced it was the right thing to do. They settled on the name Korn.

In the early years they had a hard time finding a record label because the rock scene on the west coast was dominated by grunge style rock music. Eventually, they landed a deal and released their self-titled debut album in 1994. They got very little airplay at first and they had to rely on their live performance to gain fans and momentum. This strategy worked and Korn began to develop a cult of fans who were dedicated to their sound. Within a few years, they were touring with the like of Ozzy Osbourne and The Deftones.

To date, Korn has released nine studio albums and two live albums, which have produced 35 singles, multiple videos and two Grammy awards. (See below for their discography and awards lists.) Korn has worked in collaboration with a vast array of artists. They are generally credited with helping create and popularize the rock genre known as Nu Metal. They have sold over 35 million albums worldwide. Their hit singles include Here To Stay, A.D.I.D.A.S., 'Freak On A Leash, Got The Life, Falling Away From Me and their latest release Oildale (Leave Me Alone).
