About Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels are a professional baseball team in the MLB who play in Anaheim, CA in the Western Division of the American League. The club was founded in 1961 as the Los Angeles Angels, but in 1966 they changed names to the California Angels when they moved to Anaheim. In 1997 when Disney took control of the company, they became the Anaheim Angels because the City of Anaheim, CA contributed more than 30% of the rennovation done to the stadium under the condition that Anaheim appeared in the team name and on the stadium. In 2005, new owner Arte Moreno wanted to include Los Angeles in the name of the team in order to capitalize on the LA media market. In order to comply with the original agreement with the city of Anaheim, the team's name finally became the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. People have just stuck with referring to them as the "Angels".
