Miscarriage is the term for losing a pregnancy before term. It usually happens spontaneously and often the exact reasons are unknown. Sometimes in very early miscarriages the mother may not even know that she was pregnant. About 10 to 20% of known pregnancies end in early miscarriage. A miscarriage is the body’s way of saying that the fetus was abnormal and not growing correctly so the uterus expels the embryo.

Causes of Miscarriage
Causes of miscarriage include abnormal genes and chromosomes, blighted ovum, intrauterine fetal demise and molar pregnancy. The mother’s general health plays a role also. Diabetes, and thyroid conditions can add to the chance of miscarriages.

Signs and Syptoms of Early Miscarriage
Miscarriage signs or symptoms include bleeding, cramping and pain. When these symptoms arise it is best to call your health care provider immediately.

What to Do After a Miscarriage
It is important to follow up with your doctor after a miscarriage. Sometimes a medical procedure is necessary, called a D&C. Pregnancy after miscarriage can occur without any problems. Experiencing a pregnancy after miscarriage can be tricky; it's best to check with your doctor to see how long you shoud wait to conceive again. It is also good to just rest and take it easy after a miscarriage, as it is a kind of shock to the body.

There are several classifications of miscarriages. They are: Threatened miscarriage, Inevitable miscarriage, Incomplete miscarriage, Missed miscarriage, Complete miscarriage and Septic miscarriage.
