Missouri


The state of Missouri is located within the Midwestern United States. It is bordered to the north by Iowa and to the south by Arkansas. To the east you will find Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. To the west is Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma. Missouri has a humid climate. In the winters temperatures average in the 30’s while in the summer the temperatures range in the mid-80’s.

Missouri is a great place to take a vacation. The state offers a little something special for everyone. History buffs will enjoy following the footsteps of a Civil War soldier as they learn more about Missouri’s role in the deadly war. Outdoor enthusiasts can hike in one of the many state and national parks. For those who are in search of a challenge, Missouri is home to America's longest rail-to-trail hiking/biking trail, the Katy Trail (225 miles). Don’t forget to plan some fun for the kids as well. The City Museum located in St. Louis has a playground like no other! It was created by artist Bob Cassilly out of items found right within the city itself. It is a must see for people of all ages.

On August 10, 1821 Missouri reached statehood. The capital of the state is Jefferson City and the largest city is Kansas City. Missouri is affectionately nicknamed The Show Me State. The state motto is ''Salus populi suprema lex esto,'' which is Latin for ''Let the welfare of the people be the supreme law.'' The state flower is the White Hawthorn, the state bird is the Bluebird and the state fish is the Channel Catfish. The state musical instrument is the fiddle and the state folk dance is the square dance.
