Nashik is a city in Maharashtra, India. Nashik is located in the northwest of Maharashtra, 171km (106mi) from Mumbai and 210km (130mi) from Pune. Nashik is the administrative headquarters of Nashik district and Nashik Division. Nashik is located on the banks of the Godavari River, on the western edge of the Deccan peninsula, in the Western Ghats. Nasik is the highest producer of grapes in India along with onions. The Nassak Diamond, derives its name from the fact that it long remained in the Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple, near Nashik. The Godavari River flows through Nashik from its source, which lies to the southwest of the city, in Trimbakeshwar. Nashik is the fourth largest city of Maharashtra and also third most industrialized city in Maharashtra. It is the 11th most populated district in India with growth of 22.33% in last decade. It is also the 16th estimated fastest growing city in the world for period 2006-2020 by city mayor report.
