Nebraska is a state in the Midwestern United States bordering South Dakota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming. The eastern part of the state enjoys a humid continental climate while the western part is semi-arid. Temperatures are generally hot during the summer and cold winters. The state is located in Tornado Alley which brings thunderstorms and tornadoes in the summer time.

Homesteaders arrived in Nebraska in the 1860’s to claim free land offered by the federal government. Two years after the civil war in 1867 Nebraska was admitted to the union as the 37th state with a state area of 77,354 sq miles.

The state capital of Nebraska is Lincoln and Omaha is the largest city. Nebraska is also known as the Cornhusker State. The state bird is the Western Meadowlark, the state flower is the Goldenrod, and the state tree is the Cottonwood. The state motto of Nebraska is Equality before the law.

Nebraska is packed full of fun for the entire family. In Omaha the kids and animal lovers will want to stop at the world-class Henry Doorly Zoo. Put on your dancing shoes and visit Pla Mor Ballroom in Lincoln. Built in 1929 this ballroom is the oldest remaining large ballroom in the country with a large hardwood floor for dancing. While in Lincoln visit the National Museum of Roller Skating to learn about the history of this past time.

More animal fun can be found in Ashland, NE at the Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park and Wildlife Safari. Animals roam freely while you tour the safari from your car. Also in Ashland is the Quarry Oaks Golf Club, one of the best new courses in the Midwest. Whatever tickles your fancy, Nebraska is sure to deliver!
