Neil Patrick Harris

Neil Patrick Harris, born on June 15, 1973 in Albuquerque, NM, is an Emmy Award-winning actor who became famous as a young actor playing the title character on 'Doogie Howser, M.D.' and has since established himself as a well-rounded entertainer and star of both Broadway musicals, movies, and television. About Neil Patrick Harris

Neil Patrick Harris started acting after following his older brother to an audition in fourth grade. Sadly, his first role was as Toto in a school production of 'The Wizard of Oz.' However, Harris was extremely active in plays and musicals in high school. He attended La Cueva High School and graduated with honors in 1991. Actor Freddie Prinze, Jr. also attended the same school.

Harris began his career as a child actor in the film 'Clara's Heart.' The film opened in 1988 and starred Whoopi Goldberg. For this performance, he earned a Golden Globe nomination. He was then cast to play the lead in 'Doogie Howser, M.D.' The series lasted four seasons, and came to define his legacy as an actor. For playing Doogie Howser, Harris was again nominated for a Golden Globe.

After the series ended in 1993, Harris played a number of guest roles on television. Harris landed supporting roles in 'The Next Best Thing,' 'Undercover Brother,' and the Sci-Fi action movie 'Starship Troopers.' Harris later played a drug-crazed version of himself in the stoner comedies 'Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle,' 'Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, and 'A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas.'

Harris has also starred on-stage in many Broadway productions. His roles have included both musical and dramatic performances.

In the fall of 2005, Harris landed the role of Barney Stinson, a serial womanizer on the CBS show 'How I Met Your Mother.' His work on the series earned him Emmy nominations in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 for best supporting male actor in a comedy series. Harris won Emmy Awards in 2010 for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for 'Glee' and Outstanding Special Class Program for hosting the 63rd Annual Tony Awards.

Since 2006, Harris has been open about being gay, and has been involved in a romantic relationship with actor David Burtka since 2004. In 2010 he announced that they would have twins together through a surrogate, and the twins were born on October 12, 2010.
