Nintendo has been around for some time, but it wasn't until 1979 that Nintendo became the videogame company that we know today. The name 'Nintendo' translates from Japanese to English to mean ''leave luck to heaven.'' The driving force of it all are the wonderful characters dreamed up by Shigeru Miyamoto: Mario (formerly Jumpman) and all the Mario characters, Captain Olimar from the Pikmin series, Kirby, Link and all the Zelda characters, Donkey Kong, and Samus Aran.

In 1985, the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) was introduced to the public. It became an instant hit, selling over 60 million units. Four years later, the Game Boy was available for portable gaming, which came bundled with the popular game Tetris. It oywas smaller than the original Game Boy and came in a variety of colors. Two more versions of the Game Boy followed, the Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Advance SP, featuring larger screens, better graphics and a lighter weight.
