About Nintendo 64

Referred to as the N64, the 64-bit gaming system was the last console to use cartridges as the game format. Everything now exists on compact discs or DVD-ROMs. The console was released in 1996 in Japan and North America and redefined 3 dimensional gaming with 'Super Mario 64.' The console was discontinued in 2001 as the new Nintendo Game Cube console was phased in.

The popularity of the N64 is still relatively high thanks to fanatics of the games Mario Kart 64 and the first person shooter Goldeneye 007 which featured a cast of James Bond film characters. The mutliplayer features of Nintendo 64 games made the system enjoyable for everyone.
