About Oprah Winfrey biography

Kitty Kelley, the queen of tell-all unauthorized biographies has a new subject for her poison pen: Oprah Winfrey. Kelley says she has great regard for Winfrey but also felt committed to writing the truth. The author says she devoted the past three years to examining Winfrey's life and came away full of admiration for her accomplishments and fascinated by her complexity. Sounds like Kitty has her claws out and is ready to jump all over Oprah.

The author claims to have interviewed over 800 people close to Oprah and has used twenty-five years of media coverage to examine Oprah's life. Kitty says there are some interesting revelations in the book about Oprah's childhood, her relationship with Steadman, her charity work and the way Oprah manages her show. Some reports say the book paints a picture of an arrogant Oprah, that Oprah talks of herself in the third person (Oprah does not walk. Oprah does not do stairs.); she compares herself to the Kennedys; has television show staff members kneel to put her shoes on for her. She also says that many things Oprah has said about her childhood of poverty and filth are simply not true.

Some of the most controversial bits in the book accuse Oprah of inflating stories of her being abused as a child, and claim that she was promiscuous to the point of almost being a prostitute.

But of course, a book like this will be filled with gossip and Oprah had nothing to do with its publication, so who can say what the truth is?

Kitty's book, 'Oprah: A Biography' is 544 pages and was priced at $30 upon release.
