About Pep Spice

Pep Spice is a natural herbal incense, also known as K-2, Black Mamba, or simply Spice. It produces a pleasant aroma when burned as an aromatic potpourri. The incense comes in four scents: blueberry, strawberry, spearmint, and vanilla.

Pep Spice products are labeled not for consumption. Compared to other incenses on the market, it is very expensive and mainly found for sale online. Pep Spice, however, is frequently bought to be smoked with the expectation that it will cause a high similar to smoking marijuana. Doing so is very dangerous and should not be done.

Nancy Beals, project coordinator for Drug-Free Marion County said, 'Young people are experiencing headaches and more serious reactions to this unregulated product.’'

Spice is sold legally under brand names such as K2, Pep and Kind. Distributors say it is incense, but users -- typically younger than 25 -- have begun smoking it like pot.

'It should absolutely not be used as a recreational drug,’; said John Huffman, the Clemson University organic chemist who, along with his students, created JWH-018 in 1995.

The chemical mimics the effect of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, marijuana's high-producing ingredient. The compound was picked up by overseas manufacturers, mixed with herbs and marketed as meditation incense.
