Pizza is one of the most popular foods in America. It has many regional variations, with passionate followers of either the thin crust, charcoal-baked crust, or deep dish, varieties. It has had a gourmet renaissance in recent years, with leading chefs developing their own versions of the popular flat bread with sauce and cheese.

About Pizza

Pizza is oven-baked, flat, disc shaped bread dough (called 'crust') usually topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese and then a combination of meats, veggies, fruits, and herbs depending on personal tastes.

Originating in Napoli, Italy, the dish has become popular around the world with several different varieties just in the U.S. alone including New York, Sicilian, Chicago, New Haven, Hawaiian, California, St. Louis, Mexican, and Detroit style pizza. Besides baked, pizza can also be deep-fried or grilled.

A diet rich in pizza is probably also high in salt, fat, and calories depending on the toppings. Pizza can be healthy by either not using cheese, or a limited amount of cheese, dropping the meats, and pumping up the fruits and veggies on your pie.
