About Playstation

PlayStation was first introduced to the public on December 3, 1994 in Japan. Ken Kutaragi was given the task of developing a product for Sony that would compete against Nintendo. The system consisted of a CD-ROM with 3D graphics. The CD-ROM console was cheaper and easier to manufacture than systems like Sega and Nintendo which used cartridge systems.

After the PlayStation was released, it was followed by the PS One, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 2 Slimline, PlayStation 3 and the new redesigned model of the PlayStation 3. PlayStation also produces handheld gaming systems, including the PlayStation Portable, also known as the PSP, in the 2000 and 3000 models. In 2009, the PSP Go model was launched that doesn't use a UMD drive but has 16 G of internal flash memory to store games.

PlayStation offers an online service called the PlayStation Network that offers online multi-player gaming and digital media delivery. The service can be used with the PlayStation 3 or PSP consoles. There are over 69million PlayStation Network users all over the world.
