The Playstation 3 (PS3) is a home video game console from Sony Computer Entertainment that released in North America on November 17, 2006. The PS3 is a direct competitor to Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii, but it heavily trails both systems sales in US sales. Over 51 million units have been sold worldwide so far, despite the continued success of the PlayStation 2.

About Playstation 3

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) system has huge amounts of storage for games, add-ons, music, videos and photos. Its built-in Blu-ray player shows HD movies at 1080p so you get pristine picture quality. It also has Netflix and Hulu for streaming video, built-in WiFi, and the PlayStation Store where you can download hundreds of games, free demos, and stream thousands of TV shows and movies.

There were two different models available at the time of the launch. A basic model with a 20 GB hard drive ($499) and a premium model with a 60 GB hard drive ($599). Sony later released a 'Slim' model that contains the same great features as the previous models, except for backwards compatibility with PlayStation 2 games.
