Pokemon Platinum

Pokemon Platinum

Pokemon Platinum is an enhanced remake and combination of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl for Nintendo DS. It was released in North America on March 22, 2009 and sold over 7 million copies in Japan. It is an extended remake of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, featuring many elements from those games with expanded storylines and new features.

About Pokemon Platinum

Following in its predecessors’ footsteps, Pokemon Platinum allows players to choose between a male or female character with one of four starter Pokemon. You travel through the Sinnoh region with a team up to six Pokemon, battling other trainers and gym leaders along the way. The basic mechanics of the game are the same as the previous games in the series, however Pokemon Platinum does feature new areas and new Pokemon forms. Pokemon gyms have been revamped to include minigames in this version, providing a break from the everyday battles. Players can also pay a visit to the new Distortion World, a version of Sinnoh with intentionally confusing camera angles that requires the player to make their way across floating platforms to reach a battle with Giratina’s new form.

While Pokemon Platinum was well received in the US, it was even more wildly popular in Japan. Upon its Japanese release, over one million copies were sold in only three days, and it became the fastest selling game in the region. Pokémon Platinum’s success is credited for the increase in Nintendo DS sales that occurred shortly after its release.
