A police officer is someone who's empowered to uphold the law by pursuing criminals, responding to emergency 911 calls or patrolling the streets. Although there are many other functions a police officer has to perform, their primary concern is the safety and well being of their citizens. Criminals beware!

The men in blue, the law or the po-po, all describe the valiant workers we know as police officers. They're the men and women who put their lives on the line in order to protect and serve their local communities. The job of a police officer is not an easy one as it requires immense strength, training and knowledge to understand the basics functions of what's required of them. From local, to state, even to detectives, the many different classifications of police officers all root back to intense training and understanding of crimes, criminals and the law.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 18 years or older with a high school degree or equivalent; college credit courses in law or criminal justice are helpful, but not a requirement. A thorough background check will be required and must not have any criminal charges, traffic violations or drug related charges on it. Must be in physically fit condition and should be able to complete a rigorous physical test, which could include running and various other activities.

SALARY: The average pay amongst police officers (including state and detectives) is around $50,000.
