Pregnant Period

Pregnant Period

Many women wonder if they can get pregnant when they are on their period. The answer is yes, but it is still unlikely. Studies have shown that having sex around that time of the month reduces the likelihood of getting pregnant. However, it is far from a guarantee.

About Pregnant Period

Guess what? You CAN get pregnant even when you're on your period, although it is rare. Since sperm can survive for up to 7 days inside a woman (the average life span being 3-4 days), you can get pregnant if you ovulate (release an egg) shortly after your period ends!

Some women ovulate so close to their period that they can get pregnant if they have sex during their time of the month. Studies say that you have a 20% chance of getting pregnant each time you have unprotected sex (that means without a condom or some form of birth control)!

Getting pregnant (naturally) results from a man and woman having sex. Although it is possible to get pregnant at any time (before, during, or after your period), the most likely time is somewhere between 10-20 days after the first day of your period (the average is day 14). Pregnancy occurs after a couple has sex and sperm reaches an unfertilized egg in the woman's fallopian tubes. If the egg is fertilized by the sperm, the egg moves down into and attaches itself to the walls of the woman's uterus.

Since every woman ovulates at a different time, it is hard to say when exactly you become pregnant. However, you can monitor your body and learn your own ovulation cycle. Research says that you are most fertile when you notice the most cervical mucus (a discharge that resembles raw egg-whites). This usually occurs a few days before ovulation.
