About Prince of Persia

'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time' is an action adventure fantasy film based on the popular Ubisoft Montreal 'Prince of Persia' video game series, and from the producers of 'The Pirates of the Caribbean' series.

A young street urchin in sixth-century Persia (modern day Iran), Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) has his misfortune turned around after he shows bravery in battle, and is adopted by the king as his heir so that the king's two sons will not fight over the throne. But as Prince, Dastan must retrieve a magical device. Aided by Princess Tamina in his quest to retrieve the Sands of Time -- a gift from the gods which controls the flow of time -- from the an evil nobleman named Nizam (Ben Kingsley).

Though based on the video game, one of the significant differences which the movie made was naming several previously unnamed characters, including the Prince himself. The Princess's name was also changed from Farah to Tamina. The main villain in the film was also changed from an evil vizier to an evil nobleman. Expanding on the series as well, 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time' gives the Prince a background story which has never been mentioned in the games, and explains that he actually comes from royalty.
