One year after the entering into force of a contentious media law, several journalists went on hunger strike to call attention to the unbearable situation at the public media channels. Their protest was triggered by the airing of a news item on state-run MTV and Duna Television on December 3 in which the face of former chief judge Zoltan Lomnici, appearing in conversation behind an interviewed person, was airbrushed out for no apparent reason. Airbrushing in news reports is used among others to protect the identity of people facing criminal charges.
