Roulette

Roulette is a popular casino table game that is won by predicting where a ball will land on a spinning disc.

About Roulette

Roulette is a casino game with 18th century French roots. In the game, players choose to place bets on single numbers, ranges of numbers, reds or blacks, odds or evens, or a mixture of bets. The winning number and color is found when the attendant spins a wheel and then spins a ball in the opposite direction around a track that feeds into the wheel. The ball bounces around and eventually falls into one of 38 colored and numbered slots on the wheel.

The layout and coloring of numbers in roulette is standardized within casinos. The numbers on a roulette table are 0-36 and 00, where zero and double zero are green. In the ranges 1-10 and 19-28, odd numbers are red and even numbers are black. From 11-18 and 29-36, odd numbers are black and reds even.

A winning bet on a single number pays out 35 to 1, but bets can be places across lines or corners on the betting table to split bets and the odds adjust accordingly. Column and dozen bets pay 2 to 1, and all bets that halve the field (red and black, odd and even, 1-18 and 19-36) pay 1 to 1. All the payouts are perfectly designed to payout at slightly less than the odds of winning.

No betting system has been designed for roulette that will beat the house on average.
