Salary

Salary

A salary is a form of periodic payment from an employer to an employee as specified in the employee's contract. A salary is usually a lump sum of money, which is earned over an annual basis; compared to part-time employees, which are paid per hour in most cases.

About Salary

In most businesses, a salary is awarded to full-time employees that must complete a minimum of 40 hours per week. These employees are usually paid the same amount during each pay period, compared to other types of employees, which are paid by the hour, unit, or other measuring system.

A salary is usually accompanied with other benefits, such as insurance and stock options. Although there is no set in stone way that a salary can be administered, the general concept is uniform throughout working America.

Some people also refer to unemployment compensation as a salary, particularly because they're paid the same amount for each period. Although this isn't viewed as the most accepted form of the word, it does somewhat fit into the definition.

Salaries can be determined based upon several factors, like past work experience, cost of living, location and many more reasons.
