Secretariat (2010)

Secretariat (2010)

'Secretariat' is a movie starring Diane Lane about the famous Triple Crown Winner horse Secretariat. The horse captured the attention of the public as the big red horse that could and did. His owner battles against the good ol' boys' domination of the racing world in the early 70's and saves her farm with the winnings.

About Secretariat (2010)

Diane Lane and John Malkovich star in 'Secretariat', a drama based on the Triple Crown-winning horse, Secretariat. Diane plays the horse's owner, Penny Chenery, and John Malkovich plays trainer Lucien Laurin.

In 1973 Secretariat became the first U.S. Triple Crown champion in twenty-five years, and set new records in horseracing. He was foaled at Meadow Farm Caroline County, Virginia. Secretariat was given the nickname of 'Big Red' because of his chestnut color. He weighed 1,175 pounds as an adult.

The New York Times calls Secretariat a gauzy, gooey, turf-pounding, Bible-thumping tribute to the celebrated 1970s thoroughbred from the wonderful weird world of Disney...This was a champion whose races thrilled the usual society swells and off-track gamblers along with a larger public swept up by the story of the big red horse who could and did. Squeaky clean and as square as a military flattop, 'Secretariat' ... sticks to the Disney gospel that life means following your dreams, which here belong largely to those who surrounded Secretariat in his glory years...

Diane Lane was present in the 2010 Kentucky Derby parade to publicize the movie.
