September 11th

September 11th

September 11, 2001 was the day that the United States was subjected to an attack by Al-Qaeda, a foreign terrorist group. The World Trade Center and the Pentagon were both hit by hijacked airplanes, and another airplane that was destined for the White House was brought down by civilians in a field in Pennsylvania. A remembrance tower for the thousands of missing and dead has been built on the space where the twin towers once stood.

About September 11th

The September 11 terrorist attacks shocked the nation by their cold-bloodedness and boldness.

Nineteen members of the terrorist group al-Qaeda succeeded in hijacking four airliners and crashing two of them into the World Trade Center in downtown Manhattan. Though many people walked down and out of their buildings to safety, within two hours, both buildings had collapsed and nearly 3,000 victims had died. These dead included 60 police officers and 343 firefighters.

A third plane crashed into the side of the Pentagon in Arlington, VA, killing 184 people. A fourth plane was nearly taken over and re-directed by brave passengers, but crashed in Shanksville, PA with no survivors. The encounter was recorded and was very moving. All 19 hijackers also died in the attacks.

A total of 836 first responders, including police and firefighters, had died from health effects as of June 2009, while many others had serious health effects resulting from breathing in toxins at the site.
