Seve Ballesteros is a Spanish professional golfer. He was ranked number one for several years in the 1980’s and was one of the greatest European players to ever enter the Masters in the U.S.

He started playing very young, as several of his brothers and uncles were professional highly skilled golfers. In 1974 he was only 16 but decided to become a professional golfer. His first caught the world’s attention 2 years later tying with Jack Nicklaus for second place at an Open Championship tournament. He won his first championship in 1979.

He won a total of 5 major Championships, and until Tiger Woods was the youngest golfer to win an Open Championship. He continued playing in the U.S. and Europe throughout the 80’s, but in the late 90’s slowed down due to back problems. He completely retired in 2007, and in 2008 had to undergo surgery to remove a brain tumor.

Seve continues to be very active in the sport of golfing. He is currently actively supporting a bid for the Ryder Cup to be held in Madrid in 2018.
