Silly Bandz

Silly Bandz

Silly Bandz are sweeping the nation! Rubber bands formed into shapes and in all kinds of colors are worn as bracelets, generating all kinds of fun. Like many silly things, silly bandz originated in Japan. They were first designed as an office product.

About Silly Bandz

Silly Bandz were first sold online in 2008. They began to be popular in the same year on the East coast of the U.S. They are now sold in over 8,000 retail outlets in the U.S. In some classrooms, they have been banned for being too distracting.

Not all Silly Bandz are silly. Stephen Colbert popularized the WristStrong'' bracelets after he broke his wrist. Lance Armstrong popularized the 'LiveStrong' band, in support of the LiveStrong program to raise money for cancer research. To date, 70 million LiveStrong bracelets have been sold, with individual bands selling for $1 each.

With so many kids wearing Silly Bandz, parents started to freak out a little. Rumors circulated that each color of silly band meant that the wearer would perform a particular sex act. The rumors became so rampant that some schools banned them altogether.
