Star Trek

Star Trek

'Star Trek' is one of the most popular Sci-Fi franchises in the world. Created as a television show in the 1960's by Gene Roddenberry, 'Star Trek' expanded to include numerous TV series and big budget Hollywood movies. In 2009, J. J. Abrams relaunched the movie franchise with 'Star Trek,' starring Chris Pine as Captain Kirk.

About Star Trek

'Star Trek' was created by visionary Sci-Fi author Gene Roddenberry in 1966. The original television series ran for three seasons but developed one of the strongest followings ever for a TV series. 'Star Trek' followed the adventures of Captain James T. Kirk and his crew aboard the Starship Enterprise as they sought to discover new, far away worlds in the name of peace and progress for all life.

The original 'Star Trek,' which is now commonly referred to as 'Star Trek: The Original Series,' launched the career of William Shatner, who played James T. Kirk, and Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock. In 'Star Trek: The Next Generation,' which premiered in 1987, Patrick Stewart rose to fame for his portrayal of Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

The Star Trek franchise has also produced numerous movies either starring William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk, Sir Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, or most recently Chris Pine as Captain Kirk in J. J. Abrams' reboot of the series. In 2009, director J. J. Abrams (Lost, Alias) released 'Star Trek (2009)', the eleventh movie, and the highest grossing film in the series. With a budget of $150 million, Abrams created a masterpiece that has given 'Star Trek' a new bright and hopeful future. The film grossed over $385 million. Actor Chris Pine was faced with the challenge of capturing the character of James T. Kirk. Pine put his own spin on the iconic space commander, giving him a greater sense of independence and new attitude.
