Super Nintendo

Super Nintendo

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) is a gaming console originally released in 1990. The SNES was the best selling console of the 16 bit generation of consoles with around 49 million sold. It was Nintendo’s second gaming console, and featured more advanced graphics and sound than other consoles of the time

About Super Nintendo

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System quickly dominated the console market; selling 300,000 units in Japan upon its release. It featured a lineup of now classic games like Chrono Trigger, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Final Fantasy III (FFIV), Super Mario Kart, and Star Fox. Nintendo strictly controlled games released for the console during that time, approving every game and limiting third party developers to five games per year.

Production of the Super Nintendo in America was stopped in 1999, with new games continuing to be released for the system until December of 2000. SNES titles are still popular enough that emulators are now available on many modern-day portable devices including Android devices, iPhone and iPod Touch, the PSP, the DS, and of course, the Wii’s Virtual Console.
