War movies are a Hollywood staple. However, 'The Messenger' presents war and its bitter effects in a new light. Starring Woody Harrelson, Ben Fosters, and Olivia Morton, this film is an emotional and powerful picture of loss, grief, survival, and goodness. It is directed by Oren Moverman and is co-written by Alessandro Camon, and is rated R.

Unlike past war films, this film doesn't give us the typical blow-em-up experience; it rather focuses on the very emotional journey of two men who are charged with the duty of informing loved ones that their soldiers have died while serving in Iraq. We are given characters that truly grab us and pull us into their world and show us that under hard, steely exteriors, lies empathy and dignity – doing so without any of the typical cliches. 'The Messenger' is a moving portrait that will take you deep into the emotional well of the human experience. Scott Macaulay, from Filmmaker Magazine, gives a true review stating that 'The Messenger' is moving and enormously powerful with riveting performances.

Released January 19, 2009 at Sundance Film Festival, 'The Messenger' has won critical acclaim. It has been nominated for two 2010 Oscars, including Woody Harrelson for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role.
