About Tony Hawk

Tony Hawk is perhaps the most well known and influential skateboarder in history. He is credited with evolving the sport from a pseudo-sport with negative connotations to a worldwide sensation. Turning pro at the young age of 14, Hawk has been a competitive person all his life and has always expected a lot out of himself. He married Cindy Dunbar in 1990 and they had a son, Riley, but they divorced in 1993. He then married Erin Lee in 1996 and had two more sons, Spencer and Keegan, and once again divorced in 2004. Hawk then married Lhotse Merriam in 2006 and had a daughter, Kadence, and they are still together.

The main event that has defined Tony Hawk's success is the famous 900. A 900 is performing a 900 degree aerial rotation on the skateboard which Hawk managed to first complete on July 27, 1998 and stated, This is the best day of my life. Since then he has performed the trick at two other events in 2000 and again in 2009. The completion of that trick has inspired the new generation of competitive skateboarders to push the limits of physics and have completed even harder tricks. After semi-retiring he has started a foundation to help build skate parks in low income areas.

Tony has also had a relatively successful acting career, as his cameo appearance was in high demand in the late 90s. He appeared in quite a few movies including Police Academy 4, xXx, Deck Dogz, The New Guy, and Jackass: The Movie. He made appearances on such popular TV shows as The Simpsons, CSI: Miami, and Yo Gabba Gabba as well.

Out of all this, Tony Hawk may be currently best known for his series of skateboarding video games. Originally the feature character of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, the main series now consists of 11 games (the latest being Tony Hawk: Shred). While the series is more focused on custom characters and modern skaters, his strong influence remains.

Hawk has a new book out called How Did I Get Here: The Ascent of an Unlikely CEO, which details previously unknown aspects of his life as a skateboarder and a businessman. The book is reportedly humorous, inspiring, and informational, and is available in print or digital format.
