The Toyota Prius is a mid-size hybrid that runs off gasoline and/or electric power. It is the world's first mass-produced hybrid and has seen tremendous success in the U.S and Japanese markets. It is known for being one of the most fuel efficient and cleanest automobiles ever created.
The Toyota Prius was first introduced to the Japanese market in 1997. Three years later it found its way to the states with a completely new look. This second generation Prius (2003-2009) would go on to receive 530 patents for hybrid technologies and sell over 2 million units. In 2009 Toyota would debut the 2010 model of the Prius with a new design. This new model would also include several new efficiency technologies that were auto manufacturing firsts.
Though the Prius has received both criticism and praise, it is still one of the most fuel efficient cars to ever touch pavement. It will always be remembered for setting the bar in creating an energy efficient vehicle.
