The Toyota Yaris is a subcompact car produced by Toyota since 1999. Between 1999 and 2005, some markets received the same vehicles under the Toyota Echo name. Toyota has used the 'Yaris' and 'Echo' names on the export version of several different Japanese-market models. First generation models were marketed between 1999 and 2005 under the 'Yaris' and 'Echo' names depending on the market. Hatchback, coupe, and sedan body variants were offered. Second generation models have been marketed since 2005 under the 'Yaris' name worldwide. Hatchback and sedan body styles are offered. Third generation model's mass production began in 2010. Only hatchback body styles are currently offered. On 10 October 2012, Toyota recalled 7.4 million vehicles worldwide, including certain Vitz, Toyota Yaris and Corolla models, due to malfunctioning power windows. They include: 2.47 million in the United States, 1.4 million in China and 1.39 million in Europe.
