About True Blood

'True Blood' is a vampire drama series based in fictional Bon Temps, a small town in Louisiana. The series is based on the 'Southern Vampire Mysteries' novels by Charlaine Harris. The central character is Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress who falls in love with a vampire named Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer).

The first season follows both the romance between Sookie and Bill and the mystery behind a series of murders in Bon Temps, including Sookie's grandmother, a Merlotte's waitress, and Jason's girlfriend, Amy. In the season one finale, the killer is revealed to be Rene Lenier, Arlene's live-in boyfriend.

Season two's main plots revolve around Maryann Forrester, who begins the season as a social worker who takes Tara into her home, and eventually turns out to be a supernatural creature called a ''maenad.'' A secondary plot deals with Jason Stackhouse's involvement with the Fellowship of the Sun, an anti-vampire church centered in Dallas, Texas, who has taken Eric Northman's ''maker,'' Godric, into custody. As the season progresses, Eric hires Sookie to go to Dallas and attempt to infiltrate the Fellowship of the Sun, but instead falls victim to an elaborate setup. As it turns out, Godric put himself in their custody, to become a sacrifice for the Vampire Rights cause. Eventually, Godric meets the true death at his own accord, and the characters return to Bon Temps to find it overrun with Maryann's mayhem. In the season finale, Sam finds a way to put an end to Maryann and save the town with Bill's help. Bill then takes Sookie out for a nice dinner, where he proposes marriage. Sookie, still overwhelmed by recent events, takes a moment to collect her thoughts. Before she can return to Bill, someone abducts him.

In the third season, Sookie tries to locate Bill, who has been taken by werewolves to the king of Mississippi, Russell Edgington. Eric enlists the help of Alcide, a werewolf, to accompany her and help protect her from harm. As the finale approaches, Sookie finds and rescues Bill, who in turn feeds on her to replenish his health. Unable to stop himself, he drains Sookie until she ends up unconscious. While unconscious, Sookie visits a mystical land that viewers come to learn is the land of the ''fairy,'' which finally answers the question that is often asked of Sookie: ''What are you?'' Eric Northman, meanwhile, finds a way to avenge his family's death (which had been at the hand of Russell Edgington,) by killing Russell's husband, Talbot. Russell lashes out on humanity, causing a scene of horror on a primetime news show, which sets the American Vampire League back in its efforts to win equal vampire rights. Eric and Bill lure Russell to his demise with the promise of Sookie's fairy blood, which has been rumored to allow vampires to walk in the sunlight. After Bill tries to end Eric along with Russell, Eric reveals that Bill had originally been sent to acquire Sookie for the queen, Sophie-Anne Leclerq, for the same reason Russell was drawn to her. Sookie then breaks up with Bill and revokes his invitation to her home. In the final moments, Sookie follows Claudine to the ''fairy land'' she had previously visited.

Season four premiered on June 26, 2011 and deals with new supernatural creatures as well as those from previous seasons. In this season, witches become involved, and the stories of werepanthers and shapeshifters are further developed. Sookie returns from the fairy world to find that she has missed an entire year in the human realm, and a new relationship develops between Sookie and Eric.

'True Blood' has won two Emmy Awards, for Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series and Breakthrough Performance, and was also nominated for Outstanding Main Title Design and Outstanding Art Direction for a Single-Camera Series in 2008. The show was nominated for Emmy Awards in various categories in 2009. In 2010, 'True Blood' won a People's Choice Award for Favorite TV Obsession.
